From the CEO
What a year it has been! We know that all of us have been pulling hard this year to look after your families, schools and businesses as the team of 5 million. We’re proud to have seen that teamwork shining strongly at NZCGE too as our MindPlus whānau - students, families and teachers supported by our office and Board - moved like a well-oiled machine to keep the learning going for our gifted kids, online and offline.

For me, it’s that teamwork that makes NZCGE special - we are more than just individual families working to support our gifted tamariki, and individual teachers making a difference: we are a strong team that gets behind each other across the country to make the magic happen for our kids every day. Thank you to all of you!

Our team is looking ahead now to plan for 2022 with a focus on growing our impact. We want to ensure that all gifted kids in Aotearoa receive  the specialist support they need, regardless of their school decile, ethnicity or gender.

This Term 3 Pānui shares some of the exciting developments underway, including new Board members, an upcoming Scholarships Campaign to increase access for kids from disadvantaged families, and our refreshed website and programme innovations offering more ways for families and schools to access support for their extraordinary students.

We welcome your feedback and thoughts - I’d love to hear from you  at justine.munro@nzcge.co.nz.

Ngā mihi nui

Justine

Welcome Nanogirl!

We are delighted to welcome Dr Michelle Dickinson, aka Nanogirl, to our NZCGE Board. Michelle has a huge commitment to unlocking the potential of all our children in science and technology.

We have two additional Board places to fill, with all the details here. We’d love to hear from you!

Support gifted kids

Every day, we speak to families desperate to get their gifted tamariki

the support they need but who can’t afford it.

“If Kyan hadn't received the scholarship, we wouldn't have been able to continue MindPlus. And the benefits that he's had from going there have been just absolutely fantastic. We're very grateful”
– Sherylee, mum of Kyan who is gifted

Watch out for our Christmas Campaign starting soon where we will challenge our MindPlus whānau to raise $30,000 to take 10 children off our waiting list and welcome them into MindPlus for 2022 - a life-changing Christmas gift.

Introducing our MindPlus Programme

The right support,
where and when you need it

At NZCGE, we want all gifted kids around New Zealand to be able to access our specialised support, wherever they live, however they like to learn, and whatever their circumstances.

Our MindPlus programmes all share what we call our “MindPlus magic” - a specialist curriculum for gifted kids, a specialist teacher and a group of like-minded peers.

What MindPlus programme is right for your child or the student you teach? We’ve made it easier for parents, teachers and students themselves to find the support they need with a rebranded MindPlus family of programmes. As well as our flagship OurSchool model where Y2-8 students come together face-to-face at one of our 14 units around the country, we have a suite of other programmes for younger learners, kids who want to stay at their regular schools, and kids who just want extension a few hours a week.

Check out the options for Y2-8 children here and 2-6 year old children here
or watch our Head of Programmes 'Madelaine Armstrong Willcocks'
give a 5 minute overview
here.

Joining a fun and stimulating 3 hour session each week with a small community of gifted 2-6 year olds and their caregivers, led by a specialist teacher.

Coming together with other Y2- 8 gifted learners in small classes for one day per week during school hours at one of our 14 physical locations around New Zealand.

Working with other Y2 - 8 gifted learners at your own school/kura, with your own teacher plus our specialist MindPlus teacher via Zoom and Google Classroom.

Working independently from home or your school, interacting with other learners and our specialist MindPlus teacher via Zoom and Google
Classroom.

Exploring a special passion area such as Creative Writing, History, Science or Design for a few hours a week, during school time or from home. MindPlus Badges can be carried out as part of one of our other programmes or on its own.

New website
Our new website makes it easy for parents, teachers and students to find what they need, and shares some wonderful stories from our own students and families that help them understand what being gifted means and how MindPlus can help.
